There’s something about a running waterfall that soothes and fascinates the observer. When you see one you can’t help but stop and watch it for awhile. Who can say if it’s the bubbling sound or the unending motion of the water cascading down to the pool below. Whatever it is it doesn’t matter. What matters is the positive emotional affect it has on our disposition.
If your garden is missing something and you just can’t put your finger on it, maybe it’s a water feature. With a little creativity it just might be the crowning glory to your backyard garden efforts.

The simplicity of water flowing over a few layers of flat stone can be just the incentive you need to do it your self.

There’s only three main components.
- A container for the reservoir which could be as simple as a tote.
- A suitable pump to circulate the water.
- Rocks, stone or anything you put in place to flow the water over or through.

You are only limitation is your imagination and creativity. Once you have the reservoir and the pump system you can change the design anytime.
One word of caution. Before you build an elaborate design test the volume of your pump so it meets the expectations of the design you plan to build.
If you live in a climate where water freezes in the winter be sure to take you pump inside and drain off any water in the system that could freeze and damage parts you do not want to replace.

Unless your water feature is near an outlet you’ll need to get the electricity over to it. Do not even think about using an extension cord. It should only be installed by an electrician.
